Have you heard the BIMI news yet?! No?!
Well, it was subtle, but the infographic on the BIMI Group‘s website detailing out the participaing providers had a little change in the last couple of days. What was once three providers supporting BIMI is now 4!
And guess who it is? Apple! Coming this fall (2022), MacOS/iOS16 will rollout their support for BIMI!
Details around the requirements to display your BIMI logo in their application, exact dates, limitations, etc. has not yet been released. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if, like Gmail, VMCs would be required as well.
This is very exciting news and a great leap forward for BIMI! I anticipate adoption to only grow, perhaps even skyrocket!
Why? Well, with the three main providers supporting it today, one limitation is that customer’s of Gmail, Fastmail, or Yahoo only experience the visual benefits of BIMI and other features if they are using the mailbox provider applications. However, there is a sizable chunk of these Gmail, Fastmail, and Yahoo customers that consumes their emails on their phone or computer’s mail app.
According to the data reviewed in Litmus’s May 2022 Email Client Share Market report, Apple is the top email client at 58%. So the chunk of users that use the Apple’s Mail app to read their Gmail, Fastmail, or Yahoo mail are missing out – at least until this fall!
One final caveat to leave you with. When this rolls out, it will not be a blanket release to all devices, but will start with iOS16 and likely the newest version of the MacOS. If and how Apple will decide to release it to other devices is still to be determined.
